JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Operator (Special Carbon)

Department: Operations

Area of Work: Ruwais

Minimum Requirement:
  • Completion of Technical Secondary (12 years) education.
  • Minimum 5 Years experience in plant operations in an oil, gas or petrochemical industry.
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Should have Fair knowledge in DCS & PLC applications.
BASIC FUNCTION:
  • Carries out various skilled operating activities for the operations of units, system and equipments in the operating sections of the Refinery to process feed stocks includes carrying out regular inspection of utilities and reports, preparation of the area for various maintenance jobs, signing work permits for area preparedness to start maintenance work as well as commissioning of equipments after completion of maintenance works.
  • Controls and monitors from DCS and PLC based, filed mounted package units, such as compressors, stacker/recliamer, ship loader, seawater unit and loading arm. Complies with company HSEMS manual, abides HSE responsibilities and participates in HSE subcommittee meetings and training of newly recruited operators.
  • Acts as First Line fire fighter at his assigned area and responds to adjacent units as an auxiliary fire fighter. Initiates quantity improvement ideas.

Work Performed:
  • Accepts shift from off going Operator with detailed log sheet of operational adjustments and changes during previous shift and hands over job and completed own log sheet in an orderly and efficient manner to incoming Operator.
  • Carries out regular and detailed inspection of all rotating equipment used in operations such as, electric motors, gas and steam driven turbines, pumps and compressors, etc., as well as static equipment such as towers, vessels and heat exchangers to ensure accurate and proper functioning of each item independently and in synchronization with other equipment.
  • Adjusts manually a variety of valves and switches governing rates of flow of fluids or gases and levels, pressure, temperature and chemical to ensure the correct output of specified products.
  • Carries out independently various adjustments, line-up systems for day to day operations activities, such as transfers, blending, addition of chemicals, diversion of products route at battery limits, advises control room immediately of anomalies or difficulties in operations.
  • Reads and logs readings at regular specified intervals from indicators and gauges or instruments located on equipment in the operating area. Records and advises control room Operator of apparent deviations from specified operating conditions and adjust as required.
  • Carries out the required activities as directed during shut down and start-up operation by adjusting and monitoring the alterations of speeds, temperatures, pressures and flow rates as necessary. Implements emergency procedures in case of abnormal operations and as directed by Supervisors.
  • Prepares, upon receiving instruction, equipment for maintenance activities such as manual isolation, depressurisation and draining. Follow-up maintenance work in his area to ensure that jobs are progressing and work permit conditions are being adhered to. Pre-commission and commission equipment after completion of maintenance work, participate and monitors equipments during the tests.
  • Carries out simple maintenance work such as blinding, de-blinding of smaller size pipelines, fix minor leaks of steam/condensate, connect/disconnect fittings for flexible hoses, ease and grease isolating valves to ensure they are in a good working condition.

  • Routine contacts with Safety & Fire, Maintenance, Laboratory and Operations personnel at own or slightly higher level, to exchange information relating to own work

Independence Of Operation:I
  • Reports to Shift Supervisor. Works according to well defined operation procedures and clearly defined standards. Completed work is checked at subsequent stage in the work cycle.

Supervisory Responsibility:
  • Provides work direction to contracted Marine riggers, labourer and helpers where applicable.

Physical Effort:
  • Moderate to heavy physical effort, involving standing, walking, climbing and using medium duty tools when making adjustments or pertaining to minor maintenance work, up to 80% of the working time

Work Environment:
  • Exposed to prevailing weather conditions, heat, dirt, grease, oil, fume, toxic chemicals and gases in operating area for 100% of the working time.
