Job description

Job Title: FABRICATION SUPERVISOR

Job Location: Ruwais

Basic Function:
Supervise the installation, fabrication, repair and testing of a wide range of stationary equipment in the plant, such as heat exchangers, columns, vessels, reactors, boilers and furnaces, static reformers, tanks and associated pipe work systems etc. Includes monitoring work execution and providing guidance to ensure conformity to statutory and company regulations and adopting practices commensurate with HSE manual. Provides work direction to assigned Contractors' Fabrication Technicians involved in the fabrication activities in the fabrication workshop, repair of static equipment in the assigned Plant area. Raises report of all activities referring particularly to resources, specific tools, details of materials and spares required to carryout the works. Completes assignments to the best standards of safety quality and duration for all works.

Work Performed:
  • Supervises the activities of assigned personnel in the section, performs supervisory functions at the level established by the management.
  • Reviews the incoming daily work orders indicating maintenance and defect repairs required with the planners, raises Material Request for needed materials and obtain applicable work permits. Allocates work to subordinates, checks progress and ensures safe working area. Provides instructions and advises as necessary and inspects and tests completed work to ensure that they have been carried out according to requirements and that equipments performs satisfactorily prior to handling back to the Operations Supervisor.
  • Provides work direction to contracted technicians involved in the fabrication activities and repair of equipment such as exchangers, columns, vessels, reactors, boilers and furnaces, static reformers, tanks and associated pipe work systems etc. Ensures that the Company's codes, standards and practices are adhered to at all times and that the work items listed on standard maintenance check lists are carried out correctly
  • Provide ideas for more specialized or complex fabrication and repairs jobs. Very good knowledge of fabrication equipment, tools and materials such as different types of welding machines, grinding / cutting machines, filler wires & electrodes etc.
  • Receives detailed work programmes for fabrication activities and repairs. Allocates work assignments, ensures availability of materials and follows-up to ensure satisfactory completion. Participates as necessary in the diagnosis of faults of a complex nature.
  • Receives work orders for repairs from Planning Section through area Engineer and selects and ensures the correct application of tools and engineering materials necessary to carryout the work. Before starting work, obtains from Operations Supervisor cold work permits and other specific permits such hot, electrical insulation, confined space entry, excavation as required.
  • Monitors the requirements and follows up to ensure that raw material, spare parts, tools and equipment are available to enable work to be carried out. Gives his recommendations to his respective Engineer regarding the yearly operating budget.
  • Directs the work activities of assigned craft personnel in then fabrication workshop.
  • Participate in the planning for the execution of major equipment turnaround or shutdowns. Prepare work list, reviews requests from operations or technical services personnel and assists in the development of an overall work plan for the shutdown. Supervise the removal, stripping, cleaning repair and reassembly of all major mechanical stationary equipment. Participate in the testing and start up of repaired equipment.
  • Assists in the preparation of annual lists of spare parts, consumable materials and special tools or test equipment. Reviews consumption, discussed interchangeability with Mechanical Engineer of Sr. Mechanical Engineer as applicable and prepare detailed list of requirements. Assists in the receipt of the materials and spare part through the on site inspection of delivered materials and may, as necessary, check the system operation of alternatively supplied spare parts. Provide written reports on materials not acceptable and reports to the Mechanical Engineer or Sr. Mechanical Engineer as applicable for review.
  • Prepares in relation with Planning Section and Sr. Workshop Engineer / Area Mechanical Engineer and carries out fabrication jobs in the filed and the workshop and power tools and equipment kept in the tool stores. Includes preparing equipment checklists and keeping detailed equipment records, preparing daily work schedules, obtaining necessary work permits and assigning work orders to craftsmen, according to schedules. Writes details of work performed on report form.
  • Makes sure works can be carried out in safe conditions. Liaises with Safety Department for safety procedures as necessary.
  • Inspects and tests completed work to ensure that they have been carried out according to requirements and that equipments performs satisfactorily prior to handling back to the Operations Supervisor.
  • Liaises with Operations, Inspection and other technical personnel regarding repairs and fabrication activities.
  • Performs other similar or related duties, such as making regular checks on housekeeping in Plant areas, preparing datasheets showing work completed for maintenance records, reading engineering drawings and manuals and providing on-the-job training.
  • Participate in HSE system and conduct daily tool box talk and weekly safety talk with subordinates.

Work Contacts:
Regular contacts within the department with area Mechanical Engineer and colleagues, Planning Section and Operation Department to carryout maintenance activities and to provide or seek information relating to the flow of work. Occasional contacts with inspectors and other personnel from Technical Department do discuss engineering problems.

Independence of Operation:
Reports to the area Mechanical Engineer. Works according to established programmes and specialized craft standards. Area Mechanical Engineer is kept informed through the completed daily reports and verbal reports at the end of assignments. Otherwise, work is subject to spot- check.

Supervisory Responsibility:
Supervises 12 personnel as follows:
  • Welder : 01 Nos.
  • Contracted Personnel : 11 Nos.
Total : 12 Nos.

Physical Effort:
Work, which is of the medium physical type, requires the lifting and moving of test equipment and machinery and the use of tools for the majority of the work time.

Work Conditions:
90% of the work activity is outside where the incumbent will be exposed to prevailing weather conditions and those of noise, dirt, fumes and grease according to work locations.

Minimum Requirements
a)Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Trades with aeast Six (6) years experience in the mechanical repair and maintenance of heavy machinery and equipment, such as that used in Fertilizer and Petrochemical industries. Experience must also include a very good knowledge of fabrication equipment / tools and materials.

c)Must be Fluent in English.
